BMW R90/6
San Diego, CA
November, 2005 -- This is a 1976 BMW R90/6 that I purchased
from a seller on E-Bay in September of 2005. The bike was in good
condition and did not require anything to begin enjoying it. I had owned
Harleys form 1972 through 1993 and have not had a bike since. This was not
my first choice for my next bike, but the price was right and the seller was
local.
When I bought the bike it had a R100/7 engine and a lightened flywheel
installed.
When Mike, the seller, told me the flywheel was lightened I thought, ok, so
someone had shaved some material off of the diameter and/or face. Was I
ever surprised when I finally changed the flywheel! This thing had been
whittled down to the bare minimum. I will say that it definitely increased the acceleration, but the trade off was a
noticeable difference in
the smoothness at freeway speeds.
I was
planning to ride the bike to Phoenix for Thanksgiving and I thought it would be
a good time to find out if the stock flywheel made the bike feel any different.
The pictures show the state of the bike the Saturday and Sunday before
Thanksgiving and one of me as I arrived at my sister's house.
